There are two options to enroll in the MSCS degree program:
All On-Campus Program and the Computer Professionals (ComPro) Program.
The graduation requirements for each are outlined below.
All On-Campus Program
To graduate with the MS in Computer Science, students must complete 44 credits of coursework, which includes:
- 4 credits for the Science and Technology of Consciousness (STC) course, which is mandatory for all MIU Computer Science graduate students. A Forest Academy course each semester may replace part of the STC course when enrolled in CS courses for 12 weeks or more in that semester.
- 40 credits for computer science courses, which include:
- CS 401 MPP.
- At least one Systems or Analysis course (Big Data, Big Data Analytics, Big Data Technology, Cloud Computing, DBMS, Parallel Programming, and Mobile Device Programming).
- At least 20 credits of the CS courses applied to the MSCS degree must be at the 500-level or above.
- CS 435 Algorithms must be completed with a minimum grade of B- or higher.
- No more than one course can have a grade of C, C+, or C-.
- The cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) for Computer Science courses must be 3.0 or higher.
Computer Professionals (ComPro) Program
Combination of On-Campus and Distance Education (DE) courses with Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
To graduate with the MS in Computer Science, ComPro Program, students must complete 44 credits of coursework, which includes:
- 4 credits for the Science and Technology of Consciousness (STC) course, which is mandatory for all MIU Computer Science graduate students. A Forest Academy course may replace part of the STC course.
- 40 credits for computer science courses, which include:
- CS 401 MPP
- At least one Systems or Analysis course (Big Data, Big Data Analytics, Big Data Technology, Cloud Computing, DBMS, Parallel Programming and Mobile Device Programming).
- At least 16 credits of the CS courses applied to the MSCS degree must be at the 500-level or above.
- 8 credits of Curricular Practical Training (CPT), given during CPT employment in a computer science industry position. 8 credits of CPT count towards one 500-level course for 4 credits.
- CS 435 Algorithms must be completed with a minimum of a B- or higher grade.
- No more than one course can have a grade of C, C+, or C-.
- The cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) for Computer Science courses must be 3.0 or higher.
Data Science Certificate:
All MSCS students can apply for a Data Science Course Completion Certificate with a concentration in Data Science after they complete any three of the following Data Science courses (within the MSCS Program), earning a grade of B or higher:
- CS 522 Big Data
- CS 523 Big Data Technology
- CS 488 Big Data Analytics
- CS 582 Machine Learning
- CS 589 Artificial Intelligence
